Off Site Beginning Woodcarving for the Randall Museum

Woodcarving

Experience the satisfaction of shaping wood while learning traditional woodcarving techniques and how to use sharp tools safely. You’ll begin by carving a simple low relief project that’s designed to teach you the fundamental skills you’ll need to carve more complex projects. After completing the beginning project, you may carve a second relief carving of your own design, choose from several patterns available, or carve a 3 dimensional sculptural piece that is stack laminated. The second carving could be a mask, a figure (animal or human), a carved sign or something utilitarian, such as a spoon or wooden bowl. There will be a materials fee of $40 due to the instructor on the first day of class. This fee includes wood for the beginning project, materials for a second piece and the use of carving tools during class time. There will be wood available for purchase if you have a larger piece you’d like to carve. No class 3/30.
